Website Ownership and Handover: What to Document
Document domain, hosting, repository, design, CMS and integration access before a website engagement. Ownership and licence terms depend on the agreement and third-party components.

Ownership is a practical operating question
Your team needs to operate and maintain the website after launch. Establish which accounts you control, what files will be delivered and which third-party licences remain necessary. Do this before development begins.
Include these items in the handover
Separate custom work from third-party components
A website can contain bespoke code, open-source packages, paid plugins, fonts and stock assets. Ask the provider to identify these components and explain licence or subscription requirements. Access to a repository does not by itself resolve every IP or licensing question. Obtain legal advice for the specific agreement where needed.
Verify the handover
Ask a member of your team to publish a content change, find a saved enquiry and identify how to request a deployment. Confirm that operational accounts use business-controlled recovery details and appropriate permissions. Keep secrets outside source repositories.
KaamLabs documents access and handover within the project scope. See how we work or send your requirements.
