Website Indexing: Sitemaps, Search Console and API Limits
Use crawlable pages, accurate canonicals, internal links and a sitemap for ordinary website discovery. Google's Indexing API is limited to eligible job and livestream pages.

Start with pages that Google can assess
A service page should return a successful HTTP response with meaningful visible content, its own title, description and canonical. Link it from relevant pages and include the canonical URL in the sitemap. Unknown pages should return a genuine 404.
Understand the Indexing API limit
Google's Indexing API supports pages containing eligible JobPosting or BroadcastEvent content embedded in VideoObject. It is not a general indexing shortcut for agency services or ordinary blog posts. See the official Indexing API documentation.
Use Search Console to diagnose exclusion
Inspect a representative URL and compare the declared canonical with Google's selected canonical. Review whether the page is discovered, crawled, indexed or excluded. Identical initial HTML or a homepage canonical on every route can make pages difficult to distinguish. Fix the underlying implementation before requesting another review.
Keep the sitemap accurate
List canonical pages that should appear in search. Update modification dates when meaningful content changes, rather than resetting every date during every build. A submitted sitemap helps discovery but does not guarantee indexing.
Review after release
Verify public responses, rendered content and internal links, then allow time for recrawling. Track indexed commercial pages and non-branded search clicks alongside qualified enquiries. See Google's sitemap guidance.
Use this guidance in context
Technical examples are starting points for a project review. Platform requirements change, and results depend on implementation and starting conditions. Refer to the linked documentation and test the actual workflow.
